Kindergarten News
            January 13-28
First, THIS FRIDAY!!! We will be doing DIBELS TESTING.  This is a fluency assessment.  Speed is important. Your child will need to name as many letters as possible in one minute, 40 at random to be at benchmark.  Then they will name as many beginning sounds in one minute, 30 + to be at benchmark.  Also, be able to segment words (tell the sounds they hear), they need 20 to be at benchmark and finally, nonsense words this is just sounds in “silly” words, 17 of these!!  We have been practicing in class before Christmas and we will be practicing lots more, I think we should do very well.  Practice the letters and their sounds at home and make sure that your child has a good breakfast and PLENTY of sleep each night!!    They will do great!!  I will send you a copy of the results as soon as I get them!!
Second, Mid – Term Kindergarten Assessment starts NEXT WEEK!!!   Can you believe that we are already half way through Kindergarten,  I guess time really does fly when you are having fun!    Remember lots of sleep and a healthy breakfast is the easiest things a mom can do to help!   But also, brush up on Letter Names, Writing both upper case and lower case letters, and practice sounds. For numbers, recognize and write 0-20!  Work on 10 sight words and Rhyming words!!   Also writing LAST NAME.   I can’t wait to see how the do!!  They are amazing!!

HOMEWORK
REMEMBER…….Next week we will be having DIBELS Testing.  To help your child prepare, this weeks homework is to practice!!  Continue practicing the purple packet sent home before Christmas break..   Have your child read the letters to you as fast as they can.  Each child needs to be able to read 40+ letters in one (1) minute!!  Time them and help them to get faster each time!!
Also I have provided a sheet of writing paper to practice writing your child’s name.  Please remember to start at the top when forming the letters, use a capital letter at the first of your first name and last name, with a space between!  (Most children have their last name down, if not PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!                                                                                                                                              Love, Mrs. Lee
